Question Help Please with Possible overheating

I wonder if any of you can help me. My STI 6 RA seems to be overheating alot as the fans seem to be kicking in all the time.
I drove home from work this morning(5 miles) at 40mph roughly and when i arrived my water temperature was reading 92 c(on the Power FC commander) and the fans were on.
I did put my heaters on whilst driving and found them to get warm very quickly also.
Could this be Thermostat related? Or even Water Temp sensor?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked your water level?

It could be something simple like an air lock or your end tank on the radiator maybe leaking as so many do on classics.

Fans come on at 91 and off again at 89... 92 is normal for sitting in traffic etc...

obviously check the water level, and if you drove at 40 and didn't queue in traffic then there is a problem somewhere.

Water level seems fine and it was a continuous journey this morning.
I will have a look at and test the Thermostat.
Thanks for the help so far guys.

Sounds like a definate air lock!

Even with a knackered thermostat u should get hot heaters

U need to take the cap off the water header tank and keep squeezing the bottom radiator water pipe until it starts to take water.

Top up the header tank and keep squeezing till it stops taking the water. You should finish up with the water level about 1cm from the top of the cap hole.

And your are 100% that it is not a head gasket issue?

The thermostat is the obvious next step. You could just take it out and run it without to see if your heaters work, this will also give you the chance to test the thermostat in a pan of boiling water

Removed my theromstat and found it to be cream crackered!!
However, the replacent i was given was the wrong size.

I now have no thermostat at all but my overheating problem has been sorted.
Need to source me another one.
Any know a good place to get one from or should i play safe and go to main dealer??

the zerosports 71c thermostat is good.. if I remember correctly David Hendry is the uk importer for zerosports..

or the dealer for the standard 79c (iirc) thermostat.
