Fluid fittings on TD04/VF35/TD05?
Any differences between the oil/water fittings on a TD04, VF35 and TD05? I can see it's a banjo oil feed on the top, bolted-on oil drain pipe straight out the bottom, banjos for the water feed and return on the side of the turbo.
My wagon originally had a TD04. This was changed for a VF35 when it had an engine rebuild and AFAIK the original fittings were reused although a pipe had to be slightly bent. Now I'm fitting a TD05 and need to know if my present fittings are the right size. I've heard the oil lines are the same but the water banjos are different? Or is it the other way around?

Which TD05 are you having..?
If it's the 16g then you might be disappointed after thr VF35..! Presume it's an 18g..?
IIRC the fittings are the same, although not sure what size the oil restrictor hole should be in the banjo bolt..?

No, it's a 16G. The VF35 is plenty fast enough for what I want, especially after having broken a gearbox and an AP clutch in the last 6 months. All I need is something that doesn't surge, hence the 16G which looks a lot more capable.
When you say the restrictor hole, are you talking about the little oil hole in the banjo fitting, or is there a separate restrictor somewhere in the oil line? Will it need a bigger or smaller hole for the TD05?

Yes I'm on about the hole in the banjo bolt..
With regards to going from a VF35 to a TD05 16, there's been a few people on here who have done exactly the same swap (for the exact same reason) and really regretted it. Floyd for one was really disappointed with his TD05 16 as it proved to be a lot laggier. Drop him a PM or search his tread in Projects (~pg14 iirc..?)..!
Are you certain what you're hearing is surge..? The vf35 is quite a noisy turbo, whistling and whining and I think a lot of people mistake this for compressor surge..!
Just thought you should be aware of this as I know what it's like to regret a particular mod with the costs involved..!

No it's definitely surging ever since I fitted a FMIC. I'm not looking for more power, I'm looking for smoother response, which the TD05 should give me with a better matched turbine and compressor. The chuffing, to be frank, upsets me. It's the sound of components that are not working well together. Now this is most likely all the fault of the FMIC, but I'm keeping that because it's got the charge temps under control in a way that the v4 TMIC couldn't even dream about. The VF35 was basically being thrashed to get the output from it. The TD05 is a higher flowing turbo when all's said and done, and I can live with a little lag if it'll stop the chuffing.
Thanks for the link though. If I end up eating my words I'll post up my experiences of VF35 vs. TD05.
