Carbon Catch Canister.

Carbon Catch Canister.
I discovered today that my Carbon Emisions Canister was leaking fumes. On further inspection it looks like someone has had it open before and attempted to reseal it.
Anyway, the fumes were venting into the car so as a temp measure I have removed it and connected the 2no hoses together (its an Import, I believe the Uk has 3no pipes?). The fuel smell seems to have gone away.
My question is: Will I be okay to run like this until a find a replacement and where can I get one new other than the Main Stealer. OOOPPPS I mean Dealer?
Dan.
