Default Engine and gearbox removal in one?

I am breaking my RA at the moment and wondered if it is possible to lift the engine and gearbox out in one without having to seperate them? I will be using an engine crane with a high lift on it if that makes any difference. Thanks

Can be done Geoff just sling it so it comes out on an angle to clear the front panel then you may have to lower the car down to get the back of the box to clear the front panel.
Last time i did anything like that it was an etype jag lol

Never done it that way, but having done the box-out and the engine-out to do the clutch, I would only be bothered by the weight.
As you are breaking the car, what about simply lifting the front of the shell off the front 'clip' as a whole?
Graham.

faster to pull it out in 1 go via slanting position with an engine hoist

Bugga!
The long answer didn't make it!

The clip is the whole of the engine/box/front crossmember suspension and EVERY thng else bar the fluids on one 'clip' (an American term)
It bolts to the shell in 23 places!
Similarly the rear is the same in principle.

I suggest to undo the 23 bolts, leave the heavy stuff on the floor and lift (with the hoist) the front of the shell off over the clip.
Repeat for the rear.
The dissassembly is very easy then.

This is actually how you take a 911 engine/trans out.(done that one 14 times!)

Graham.

i removed my engine and gearbox together, just remove drive shafts and all the crap that needs disconnecting and the bolts that hold the crossmember on and i lifted the CAR off the engine removed prop shaft etc,job done,i didnt have a engine hoist so this was easiest at the time, the crossmember is handy as it leaves the engine off the floor when ur storing it

oops,as 911 said !

Default Engine out!

Thanks for all the advice guys. I ended up taking the engine and gearbox out in one by slanting them backwards and lifting with a crane. I must say it was incredibly straight foreward and a pleasure to do! The angle grinder did come out a couple of times to remove seized nuts though! What I did struggle with though was removal of the downpipe, in actual fact it stayed attached to the engine untill it was out. The nut underneath the turbo just would not come off, especially after I ringed it. I do not envey anybody having to remove their downpipe without a pit or car lift! ANyway, job done. If anybody wants a good set of heads or manifold with the fith injector......
