It's on the front of the offside suspension turret on my later classic. There is a rat's nest of various sensors, hoses, wires etc right there, and one of them is the boost solenoid. Your early WRX should have a 3-port which should be the most easy to get at, with three separate vacuum hoses going into it, one top, one bottom and one side, plus an electrical plug. It will probably say Denso or Unisia Jecs on it, I can't remember.

So just clean out all the pipes with brake cleaner and shoot brake cleaner into the where the pipes go yes?

And the electrical thing? Clean how?

Anyone? Someone must have done this as it's a common fault or so I've heard!

By 'electrical thingy' do you mean the solenoid itself?
If so give it a squirt of brake cleaner as well.

I've also been quoted some nice power gains from it aswell, 20bhp increase and obviously the ability to wind the boost up more safely with supporting mods!

Don't expect 20bhp (i did and was dissapointed when i didn't get that much) you may get it or you may not but you will get an increase and it feels a lot smoother to drive.

Hmm I was told there will be a significant BHP increase fitting the chip, at least 19.5bhp as they run differently and more boost to the U8

What problems are you getting at full throttle then? I think I may be having similar problems.

See my other post (WRX questions), basically at full chat it was holding back on occasion then giving full power, I removed a coilpack and it was shot to pieces and I had a cracked plug, all being replaced 2moro!

You need to join the two test connectors near the steering column. IIRC they're the two green ones. Turn on the ignition and everything will start whirring and clicking. Put rags everywhere and start blasting out the solenoid through every port while it's clicking away.

Did mine a few days ago, Disconnected all the hoses squirted some brake cleaner into the solenoid, then connected a 4mm vac hose i had hanging about, connected the green connectors and then manually blew through the solenoid, then repeated a few times, I changed the exhaust port with a different shorter hose (transfered the restrictor) all seems to be running fine now.

I've just fitted new plugs all round, 1 new coilpack as the other was shot and a Z4 ecu. PLUS cleaned out the boost solenoid and pipes with brake cleaner.

Running problems seem sorted and the car is certainly faster even if it is only running 1psi more it's MUCH better and stronger and smoother now!

Big thanks to everyone!

Now perhaps you should possibly look at the brakes as the standard 2 pots are terrible.
