50,000 mile service and cam belt change
Car due for above service, which apparently includes a cam belt replacement as standard.
Being quoted £500 by my local Subaru dealer. Does that sound reasonable? A mate suggested someone who runs a local firm that just does cam belts does it (the cam belt replacement), apparently for far less.
Is there any benefit in going to the Subaru dealer for a) the service and cam belt or b) just the service and get this guy (who apparently knows his stuff generally) to do the cam belt? Indeed, is there any point in getting Subaru to do the service at all as the car's 5 years old (MY01)?
Thanks for the advice guys. Have already booked the service, but will cancel / amend if the concensus is to change!

Im not really sure if that reasonable or not tbh, probably, considering main dealer prices!
If the car currently has a full Subaru service history, there is a point in getting it done at Subaru. As it will hold its value better and enable an easier sale when you come to get rid with a consistent history at Subaru.
You also need to consider if this guy somebody knows, does actually know his stuff, as by opting for the cheap route could end in tears.
A possibly cheaper alternative to getting it all done at Subaru would to take it to a smaller, independent garage. There will be good ones in your area, who will do the job as well, for considerably less. And by doing it that way, you'd have a leg to stand on at least, if anything did go wrong post service!!
