Mine runs at 1-1.5 bar on idle as well. Start worrying if it goes below 1 bar.

Against the Subaru workshop manual specs, 1 bar is fine at idle. IIRC the other minimum pressure is something like 3 bar at 4k revs, but I'll have to check that. Anyway mine does 1-1.5 bar on a hot idle (that's 90-100 C) after a hard run, which I'm perfectly happy with. As long as pressure is up when you actually need it there's no problem - and I get no less than 4 bar as soon as I'm over 1500 rpm, 5-6 bar higher up in the revs.

Motul 300v 10w-40 btw.

Of course on a cold idle it'll show 6-7 bar, but then what good is that?

Checked it again this morning,on start up ie cold it is 6.5 bar and at 90 degrees it is between 1 and 1.5 bar at idle and at 3000 rpm it goes up to 4.5-5 bar. The oil is 10/40 semi synthetic i believe im not sure of the make though, would i benefit from a change of oil?. If its not a daft question also would low oil pressure at idle cause any damage?. The readings are being taken from a sandwich plate by the way.
much Appreciated all your help.
cheers,
Dave.

Well your readings are basically the same as mine and I'm taking my pressure reading from the preferred spot where the pressure switch is at the front of the engine. What oil to use is a whole other game, and there are threads galore about that.

I personally think what you're seeing is fine, but I'm no expert.

When it comes time to change your oil go for a good fully synthetic. Id say 10w40 if you use it straight from cold, cold morning or through the winter and up to 15w50 in hotter weather... what ever you choose it will probably be fine weather its hot or cold use.

Yes I'd go to a 15w50 fully synthetic in warm weather. At the moment my Motul 10w40 has been fine through the winter, but lately it's been 'cruising' at 90 degrees C and above so it would be better to have a 50 weight in there over the summer. I'm too cheap to change £50 worth of oil though LOL
