Default MAF

Hi all,
Just had my MAF out and there are 2 connectors (they look like 2 small copper things) sticking out just before the sensor head inside the inlet.Should these be connected to anything because there don't seem to be anything inside the inlet pipe to connect to?They are about 1cm apart.
The reason I checked is because after a very recent rebuild, the engine is still going **** up.Checked for any fault code and I got 23 and 32.the former is Maf and i think the latter is lamda. Please tell me if I'm wrong and do you think an ECU reset is in order?

Ta!

I THINK the bits you are on about should have a tiny wire connecting between the two (this is what readfs airflow)
