Default new engine needed?!!

right i had what i suspected was a crank seal oil leak so i booked it in to cas motorsport and they have said that they suspect it'll need an "engine refresh" at a "worse case scenario" of £1500-£2000!! HORROR was my 1t reaction...............prior to this leak my engine was strong and i cant see how they can justify that price when i can surely get an engine for much cheaper than this?!!..................help please.........

What exactly is an 'engine refresh' do they mean a rebuild?
What did they give as an explanation to their diagnosis?

"Engine refresh"

Sounds like bollox to me mate. I wouldn't even pay any further labour costs: get a statement about what their diagnosis is so far, then get the car elsewhere to a scooby specialist!!

You could do a lot worse than give David at Api a ring!!

The only thing i can think of connected to the "crank seal" would be excessive
endfloat on the crank/main bearing thrust causing the leak to the rear main oil seal or front seal on the pump.

cheers fellaz.........ithink its bollox aswell. an "engine refresh" is basically a rebuild but the way i see it if my engine is 90k anyway and it is indeed goosed surely i can get another engine supplied and fitted for less than this.......................merlin24 ur explanation seems like it rings a bell so if its that is it as serious as they claim?

IIRC - the max. endfloat(thrust) is 0.0045 in ( 4 1/2 thou )
If it's anywhere near this - its time for a rebuild mate.
2K is about right for a full(quality) build depending where you get it done.

Hi there. Im selling a wrx motor which i bought for a legacy twin turbo only to find it has no connections for the 2nd turbo! doh !

I heard it running before i bought it and it has 60,000 kilometers. Ive yet to put it on ebay. Im looking for offers around £800.

Im based in Yarm, about 30 mins south of Newcastle. I can deliver to a certain distance but that would need sorting out.

Cheers and good luck with rebuild if you choose that route. BUT what ever you do, make sure it is a WELL known garage who does the rebuild. Ive just lost £3500 on a rebuild as the garage said they wont warranty engine after it failed, with only 4500 miles on. Their excuse was it was a uprated engine, although thats what i asked for!........
