Right, basically, as title says. Want to know peoples opinions on the different options, with regard to the best turbo for 340bhp.

VF34
VF35
TD05 16g (the 18G is too expensive!)

18G overkill for 340bhp anyway!

VF35 if you want the quickest spool
VF34 if you're prepared to sacrifice a bit of spool for a bit more top end
Td05 if you want the toughest turbo

Right, but; how does the TD05 compare - spool-up/top-end wise to the VF series turbo's?

TD05 spools later than both. I'm lead to believe it's marginally superior to the VF34 (which is marginally superior to the VF35) at the top end. Other mods, your specific can can easily negate differences though.

I know of one person on here who went from a VF35 to a TD05 and felt is was a mistake as it did spool up appreciably later.

Right, well im thinking along the lines of the VF34 then. So, am I right in thinking this should have a good top end; but still get on boost earlier than a TD05??

Also, what kind'a price do all of these retail at, and where's the best place to get them from?

Cheers

a TD05 16g or (larger) may lose a little in spool but what you will lose in spool you will more than make up for in mid range torque.

plus 340 on a VF will be with lots of supporting mods where as a TD05 18g could make that figure with less 'add-ons'

Ah right, whats the maximum bhp a TD05 16g could make? As I need to do this for as cheaply as possible thats all.

The car already has all the necessary supporting add-ons anyway, so that is not a problem.

I was told a while back that the 16g is good for 340bhp. Mine's making 330bhp currently, but I'm at the point of needing larger injectors and most likely a mappable ecu.

That may be of help, if not sorry.

Micky.

^^^depends on the car

if you want to know what it will 'make' on yours, give us your spec list and I dare say someone will hazard a guess.

V6 RA's had VF28's on.

My modded MY 1999 made 360bhp at scooby clinic at 6200 rpm with a VF28

The car had loads of supporting mods for that figure though.

It previously made 330 bhp with a TMIC, ECUTEK mapped by Andy Forrest, 440cc injectors and a 2.5 in exhaust, 92 mm pistons. STI Ver 5 heads

The 360 figure was with Front Mounted Intercooler, 740cc injectors. 3inch exhaust system, Apexi power FC, 93mm wiseco pistons with 8.35:1 comp ratio. The same STI Version 5 heads but they had been polished with all the valves reseated and re shimmed.

I also had a VF34 on my pervious scooby (RB5) and that made good figures and spooled really well.

IMHO the VF34 is the one to go for.

V6 Wrx Ra has the vf 29 not vf28. The vf28 can be found on the P1 the sti ra v6and sti typr r v6. They are pretty much the same but the 29 has subtle improvements over the 28, the compressor wheel is different allowing faster spool up. Above 1.3 bar is pushing it a little at high revs, go for 1.4 mid range tailing off to 1.3 in the upper rev range. The 29 is a great turbo suited to the ra gearing perfectly.

Hope so Daz..... should make it quite a lively road car, i know there`s bigger bhp cars out there, but these are SO light. I had a Tommi Mak before this with Autronic/ anti-lag etc dynod @ 378 bhp similar torque, yet the RA to 100-120mph seems faster mind you delivery is totally different on this aswell.... should be fun...

. Staffi if you look at your turbo there is an id plate on it. On it you will find the designation number, that will dispel any confusion.

As usual with late spec Classics it would appear there are subtle differences in specs.

The VF29 came on WRX RA the VF28 on the STI RA.

looks like we're both right lol

Incedently my car has the six speed box so i have the low ratio 1st - 4th with long 5th and 6th best of both worlds lol

Good thread below for you as well:

Subaru Turbo List - Newbies & FAQs - NASIOC
Right, well here is the spec of my engine, and the mods it has:-

Currently on 74k; but had a bottom-end rebuild at 58k with forged pistons and billet rods (imported from America; but not sure what make)
Full Ninja System and decat/downpipe
Green Panel Filter
EcuTek Tek 3
Uprated Oil Pump
Walbro Fuel Pump

And I have waiting to go on (before the turbo and re-map):-
Ported Headers
STi8 TMIC
4bar FPR

So can anyone hazard a guess as to what power I could achieve and with what turbo's??

Right, what injectors are you running then mate? Im on 440cc, and have been told by Andy Forrest that they will handle 360bhp with an adjusted 4bar FPR, so they're ok.
