Lots of choices.
In no particular order:
1: ESL/Scoobyecu chip that just solders onto the spare port of your ecu (www.enduringsolutions.com) or (PolarPerformance this is by Scott T who posts on here and knows his stuff quite well).
2: Z4 ecu from a later model wrx (although looking at the above websites this seems to be not a worthwhile change).
3: A fully remappable ecu (apexi power fc is extremely popular) but there are is a huge amount of others (Motec,Hydra,Link etc)
I would say with the IK it's worth sheilding it from the engine bay (i'm having to do this on my 93 wrx)

Agree with that. Just depends on how much you wanna spend.
- ESL/Scoobyecu £200 ish
- A Z4 can be had for anything up to about £120
- A new ECU can be a few 100 pounds plus rolling road time.
I went for the chip, I like it.

They can be amended, less people do it so a little harder to find. For a deffo answer try asking Scott (polarperformance) Andy (enduringsolutions). There are probably more people who sell these chips by now.

The phase 1 ecu can now have an addition board added whcih is built by ESL and it can then be live mapped.. various mappers now do this, including myself.. price is around £600.

Apexi Power FC and Commander. Vaulve for money fully mappable and pound for pound the best stand alone engine management system about.
Hydra, EMS, AEM, piggy back chip are all well and good but either too tuneable or too restrictive.
Act quick though the Version 1&2 Power Fc are dissappearing as Apexi have stopped making them. You can get hold of them for between £430 and £600 depend where you go.
I got mine new off Scooby net for £430. One sold on Ebay today for £510.

But I can't complain about Apexi too much as it's what I run (MY00).

you can tell it is early days though as I still pointed out the various mapper bit
PowerFC for the early car is still available through authorised Apexi dealers..
If they are going for as much as £600 then £800 supplied, fitted and mapped seems a bargain
