small problem
my94 sti wagon, i'm having trouble starting it from cold, but it splutters then kicks in ok and runs as sweet as a nut from then on, in fact it has never driven so well as it has recently, the problem has only occurred for the last week or so.
has anyone got any ideas what the problem might be? any help appreciated.
cheers
steve

it's had a coolant temp sensor, and it isnt throwing any fault codes up either at the minute, i just cant understand it, it is really strange, from cold the car splutters as if it's running on three cylinders for a few seconds then it just fires into life as if nothing is wrong at all.
it still goes like stink when it is warmed up and runs really sweet, i just cant understand it.
ive been told everything from battery to coil packs and plugs and everything inbetween but it's had all new stuff not 6 months ago, so i cant see it being any of them items.

could it be the idle control valve? was giving it some thought last night, and it stands to reason that the car is running a very low idle on initial start up, approx 200 rpm, then after a couple of seconds it goes up to it's normal cold idle speed of 1200-1300 rpm, onced warmed up it's absoloutley fine. could it just be the sensor on the idle control valve or the valve itself playing up

Hi ya m8 my scooby has a prob with the idle air control solenoid IE:code 24 .i have reset the ecu a dozen times and cleaned it with carb cleaner but still keeps getting the same fault code come up .so i would say that if there is a prob with that sensor it would show on the diagnostic mode .and further more years a go i had a xr3i witch only had 2 see a rain cloud and it would not start .need wd40 sprayed on the leads in the end the leads needed replacing the carbon fiber inside had broken down and the spark was intermittent some times it's the little things that make all the difference m8

I have an MY93 WRX with a switchable map (Std U8, or a ScoobyECU).
On the standard map, the engine starts fine, every time, on the first turn of the key.
However, on the ScoobyECU map, if the engine is cold, it takes several attempts to get the engine to fire. Then the engine is very lumpy for a second or two, and then revs normally.
Unfortunatelly, I've no idea why the difference between the two maps! Only thing I'm aware of is that the lambda sensor is probably U/S, but I don't understand why this would make the car start differently on each map?!
