whats the neutral switch and what does it do ?
had one replaced, I have not got the foggiest idea what it does.

I was told by dealer that it is something to do with when you change gear over neutral position - why that's so important only God or technoheads know. Mine failed and the incident registered as a fault on the engine management system because the Check Engine Light (CEL) flashed then stayed on. Flashing CEL a few times, then finally light stayed on constant - triggered always when changing from 3rd to 4th when accelarating hard. Cost to replace Neutral Switch about £70 inc. fitting and VAT.

Thanks for reply, had one changed at 30,000 miles ( under warrenty ) then it went again at 62000 miles and subaru changed it again under warrenty, symptoms exactly as yours, ta

I only knew mine was going by the switch readout on my FC Commander. Replaced it but it made no difference to the running.
