uk my98 need more power/torque (as usual)
hi, i have uk my98 been on rollers producing 220bhp standard apart from back box and ported standard headers. running slightly rich afr of 14.8/ 0.8 bar boost. (have been told this is normal?) i wish to add decat pownpipe and sti intercooler.
would this be safe without buying apexi fc and remap? have been told this would make the car run richer again and this would not be advisable. have already uprated brakes and car handles well on our s**ty condition roads round here looking for more power in stages.
what have you found best on your cars?

I have the same car....year, colour (if your username is anything to go by) You will spool a lot quicker once you go decat and this may cause over boost which is not good.
Why do you want to decat? Is it to add more horses?
Uprating the intercooler is a good idea if you are planning on upping the power.
It is best to plan what you want from the car then finding out how you can achieve your goals.
My current setup is a
full decat
Newage WRX TMIC
3 port boost solenoid
Apexi PFC
K&N panel filter
still on the td04 atm
this produced 280bhp 300ft/lb
Hope this helps.
put down your goals and im sure someone more qualified than me will point you in the right direction.

hi mike, yes reddishblue original name eh? lol
yes wanted to gain small amounts each time i modded, for economic and smiles each time i make a change, although this doesnt seem possible without purchasing a apexi power fc for this to be safe.
as stated i already have ported my own headers (slightly faster spool up??)
and have a decat d/p and apexi panel filter and version 4 sti intercooler
guess i should wait for power fc to be fitted along with these other mods.
my spec will be similar to yours in the end, its the midrange i want to
improve as this is real world terrority, have you noticed a difference?
thanks for your reply mike.

Yeah its megga different. I has to change uprate the clutch soon after mapping due to the 300ft/lb. It is so much quicker now as im running 1.3bar of boost and I get better mpg too.
It can cost quite a bit more if you do it in little stages if your looking for big power but if your plans are to stay under 350bhp then this is fine IMHO.
If your on the market for a power FC keep an eye out in the for sale section
If you want new checkout Greenline Motorsports - Bringing you the world's cheapest Japanese performance parts I got mine from here
Cheers
