Clutch Removal - General Question
I have been looking around and happened upon a description of how to change the clutch in an Impreza.
Basically what it said was,
1. Remove Radiator and Hoses
2. Detach Engine from Bodywork and Gearbox
3. Slide Engine into space vacated by Radiator
4. Remove Clutch - put new Clutch in
5. Slide Engine back
6. Replace Rad and hoses
7. Job Done.
Now, this seems easier for the home mechanic than taking box or engine out.
Anyone know if it is correct?

How much space would you need to swap the clutch over?
I guess about 6-8" as a minimum?
Removing the Flywheel would maybe need more? not sure - but I'm just talking a simple Clutch Swap.

Agreed - gearbox too!
Moving the engine forawrd and removing clutch with 10" gap between it and the gearbox give no room to look in and be 100% sure the clutch is dead centre!
Russell
ps - don eit via engine method and gearbox method and they are both about the same time.

But I am looking at 75,000miles now and something must wear out ......
The front brakes lasted for, what? 63,000miles? Not sure about the rears?
Clutch is original, as is everything else - I have changed the tyres once or twice though

I think you would struggle, by the time you got the engine ready to slide forward, it would only take 10 minutes to remove it altogether with a hoist.
