Default ninja sportcat downpipe - wot's it sound like ??

Hi all,

As above, I fancy getting a Ninja sportscat dp and up-pipe to add to my existing deresonated decat H&S centre pipe and Prodrive WR backbox.

Was curious as to what difference this will make to the volume & burble ?

Current set up is pretty quiet, so a bit more burble etc would be good - do I need a different backbox for this ?

cheers for any thoughts,

Andy

slightly louder then standard but not much as the cat acts as a silencer.
I used to run a decat downpipe and resonnated centre. when I fitted the sports cat I had to go un-resonated on the centre to bring the volume back up.

What does it sound like?

VROOM....PSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

It makes the burble a bit deeper and you get more of the noise of the turbo spooling up, Andy. Very nice. Biggest benefit is the lower and quicker spool up and -in conjunction with a remap- the increased power and torque!

All without the MOT hassles too!

LOL ! Was hoping you'd read this Ns04.

So do you reckon I'd be best to wait and see what it sounds like with the sportscat dp before buying another backbox ? What backbox do you have on your 319bhp classic and what's the volume like ?

cheers,

Andy

Hi Andy..

I had a Ninja Sportscat fitted this week (Monday)

I have a 2002 UK STI and its fitted with a Ninja centre pipe with resonator and the Ninja 1 backbox, airfilter is a "green"

The sound is very different to the normal 2 cats that were in my system before... when you 1st start up the exhaust note is slightly higher, sort of rasping sound then when your on tickover a nice deep burble to a roar on acceleration

The performance though is really noticable, I done a ecu reset on Tuesday evening and have been running around "normal" driving for a couple of days... now when you put your foot down the performance is on tap.. even from low revs, the turbo spools up quicker and sounds very nice

Highly recommended mate.. good price too if you are with SIDC - discount !

cheers

Andy

Slight hijack but...

I was thinking of one of these downpipes as the next mod on my classic. I currently run a ninja decat centre section with resonator and a racebox backbox - would I need to get my car re-mapped? I know I would to get the most benefit but for 'safety' reasons, do I?

Hey Andy,

Yes wait! The DP won't make nearly as much difference to the sound as a big change in backbox could. The main things you'll notice are increased turbo noise (nice) and a slightly deeper burble. When I had my DP and headers wrapped I noticed that the sound was even nice. It made the rumble more noticable, but took the harsh edge off and leaves this wonderful woofle/burble.

I have a H&S original scooby design backbox on mine. Sounds lovely, but isn't too loud. TBH I reckon that my set up is about as loud as you'd want to go on a classsic if you're sensitive to the noise and the car is used everyday and for motorway journeys. I't s a different story for new ages though, as the soundproofing is significantly better than the classics.

Sleazy. If you have a UK classic, then you most likely won't need a remap, but you won't get the full benefits without it. Would sugggest you get a knocklink, just to be on the safe side too. Mine stayed utterly silent when I fitted the mods to mine.

If it's a JDM classic, you will NEED a remap; it won't run safely without it.

Cheers NS04. It is a UK classic - might look into a cocklink just to be safe.
