Default Which Exhaust ?????

On a JDM Impreza S.T.i 2004. ( twin scroll )

What exhaust do you think sounds the best ?
NOT necessarily the LOUDEST !!! but a good grumble sound, well as best you can with the twin scroll and has anyone changed the headers ??

Need some feed back before i spend out on the wrong one..

Stu,

It depends on what you are after - when you ask if anyone has changed the headers do you mean back to unequal length? In doing this you loose a lot of torque - one of the best things about the JDM set-up.

As for best sounding you won't be surprised to hear me say Milltek. They are quality, well made kit that sound tip-top when opened up but not too loud as to pI*ss off the neighbours every morning etc.

They also give good power gains - my car was running just shy of 350bhp with just the system and a remap

In exactly the same boat , my 04 JDM STi still has the original exhaust on it & I'm looking to free up some power without going to loud ( at low speeds and motorway cruising I mean)
Was thinking about getting a Prodrive down pipe with a sports cat , with a decatted prodrive centre section & an STi Genome back box. Keeping my eyes peeled for any that come up for sale on here.

P.S Pippyrips how loud is the Milltek on a motorway run ?

Not that bad .. just turn the radio up !!

As Pippyrips has said .. off boost or just keeping the car at the same speed there is a deep but not too loud rumble ... open it up on full boost above 5K and it roars.

4k rev sound levels are about 96/97db but full boost about 102/103db .. although mine was recorded at 105db after a long day on the track.

Mine's a 2.5 " version btw .. but I'd recommend getting the 3" as its about the same price and can unlock 20+ hp.

Additionally, when I last spoke with Iain Litchfield just after Christmas he was saying that Milltek were investigating producing a slightly quieter back box. So, it might be worth touching base with Iain to see where they are with that.

Thanks guys for the info , I've just found out that the Prodrive exhaust won't fit on a JDM Twin Scroll car , there are limited systems that fit aparantly, Haywood & Scott do one, Janspeed aswell (Roger Clark system I think) and Milltek. Not sure If ther's any more , must be I would have thought.
As for the Genome , Japanparts.com have them if your minted ! £400 roughly , I'm on the hunt for a 2nd hand one
