Does anybody out there who has a Classic Impreza find it difficult to arrive at a correct oil level reading?!

I have a 1993 WRX and the level is different straight from stone cold from leaving overnight, to when I wipe the dipstick clean, re-insert, pull out, then check again (higher)! Would this simply be because I have dragged oil up onto the inside of the dipstick holder? I tend to do it three or four times to gain, hopefully, a true reading. Does anyone else have this issue?

 

Yep i do exactly what you do get the 'accurate' reading
