Default Heat Shielding for an RCM induction kit

Had my mapping session with Bob R on the weekend and in doing so changed my standard airbox for an RCM induction kit.

I added a cold air feed in preparation which works well (temps at MAF are only 3 degrees higher than ambient when moving) though am conscious summer will have an effect on this.

Has anyone built/made any form of heat shielding to section off the filter for an 04 engine bay?

Out of interest. Will it make much of a difference as you've already added a cold air feed?

Hi PR,

It certainly does make a difference. Even with a cold air feed, without the heat shield I was seeing intake temps of 10 degrees above ambient. After adding the shield I now see temps no higher than 1 degree above ambient at cruising speeds.

The shield comprises of a sheet of carbon fibre covered in heat reflective material on the 'hot side'.

The easiest way to sort the shield is to use a piece of cardboard to cut out a template. Transfer the design to the CF and once cut, finish off the sharp edges with a lenght of silicone hose.

Midlife may have kept a copy of the template we designed when we did his car.

He's only seeing 3 degrees over ambient now, so it will be a lot loss noticeable.

How much did your shield cost?
