Default can the Throttle Position Switch be cleaned ? MY98

Periodically, the Tick over will go high, Hang & Hunt along with V poor running, The Cel light is also illuminated, CEL Code 31 is stored TPS.

The Cel light will then go out, Come back on, Go out Etc a few times, Once it has gone out permanently the Revs at tickover stay much higher about 1050 Rpm, Turn ignition Off & restart the car & the idle returns to normal

Is it worth cleaning ? Has/Does this make a difference ? IS it best to just replace the Tps ? & what should the Voltage be on a MY98 on closed & open Etc.

thanks V Much

I cleaned mine out a while ago with some electrical contact cleaner to solve the high idle problem you describe. The idle voltage should be 0.5v but I would mark the sensor against the throttle body to make sure you put it back exactly where you take it from.

It should be giving 0.4 to 0.7 volts when closed, 4.3-4.5 v wide open IIRC. It can be taken off and cleaned. If this doesn't fix it, just replace it.

Cheers.
Well adjusted & cleaned the Tps, i was amazed how much i had to move it to get 0.4 Volts.
I also found out that i have a split inlet pipe by the Turbo, So fixed that also with a sneaky bit of Samco i had lying around from when i grafted a Evo 6 intercooler onto one of my earlier scoobs

Car seems alot happier now, Much smoother at Tickover ,part throttle cruise & pulls stronger Too

Lets hope it lasts
