Unhappy Quick replies needed re Cranks

Are crank shafts expensive ?

I've just been quoted AUD $3,000 for a new crank, just the part.
Also quoted AUD $2,000 to $2,500 for a replacement engine.
Seems very disparate !!

Need quick answers as I now have big end problems on No4 cylinder, again.
Car sitting at Subaru garage.

Is the replacment engine new, a shortblock or second hand.

Cranks in the UK are about £450.00 for STI Latest, engine re-build about £2500.00.

Default

1,191 GBP seems a little on the steep side considering you could pick up a new short engine for around 1500 GBP.

Unhappy

Had the crank ground some years back in NZ at a cost of NZD $4,600 including labour.

Would that make the No4 a bit weaker, and more likely to 'let go' ??

Not sure what to do.

Been quoted AUD $2,500 for s/hand engine, but they cant source one in Australia (were I now reside).

Been quoted AUD $8,000 for engine rebuild which seems steep. I presume with new crank, it makes it expensive.

I suggested putting in a lower spec engine (mine is 206kW at flywheel, no mods), - would the ECU work on a lower spec model ??

Re-boring out to 2.2 Litre, is that an option ??

Gor, blimey, what a situation. :-(
