hi dan. turbo timers alow the engine to keep running after you switch off the ignition. the advantages of this is that it allows the turbo to cool down, especially usefull after some spirited driving. some let it run for a time set by you, others use the duty cycle signal from the injectors to work out how you have been driving and from that, determine the time needed to cool down. if you did turn off the engine when the turbo is very hot it could cook the oil around the bearing inside the turbo and lead to the oilways sludging up and eventually leading to turbo failure.

Very little point in them IMO.
Back off for the last few miles of your journey, does the same job.

Even if tracked i'm sure its as easy to back off on your last lap and idle for a few mins in the paddock.
Even driven hard on public roads you have to back off at some point as most residential areas are 30-40mph unless of course you live on the end of a motorway
Plus i wouldn't like the idea of walking away from my Impreza with the engine still running.

I just had one fitted to my WRX and the annoying thing is that from what I gather (and in my experience) the newage models central locking can only work by remote (or you'll only lock drivers door) so the result is you have to wait for it to complete the cycle before you can lock it...... obviously standing / sitting about before that point!!!

I'd say it's down to you..... if I knew then what I know now I wouldn't have bothered.

That said I can certainly recommend the HKS one that Graham Goode does!

Water cooled turbo won't even need it, unless you literally take a 30sec WOT then turn it off. A minute of careful driving before stopping is better.
