Question Intercooler & fins that are not straight

If there are quite a few fins that need sorting out is it best to replace the intercooler (or is that expensive) or spend some time straightening them out ? Is it worthwhile getting the fins straight or does it make no difference ?

Thanks Andy.

it is worthwhile as if they arent straight(ish) then the air cant get past them to "cool" the core, thus reducing its efficiency.

Just get a paid of tweezers and spend an hour or so on it....im going to do just that later on sadly

I'd imagion the odd couple wont make a difference but if theres quite a lot then surely they're going to affect the amount of air flowing through, might check mine later if im bored

Would it be easy to take off & do the fins in the warm ?
There are a few that need doing & if it helps with cooling I guess I better do it

Then buy a grill that fits over the Intercooler, to keep it in good condition.
Mine came from Power Engineering, has been fitted since car was new.

Thanks for that. Will look up Power Engineering in the morning & give them a call. Makes sense after spending time getting them straight

Take it off. Seems daunting the first time you do it, then you realise that it only takes a couple of minutes with a screwdriver to undo the jubilee clips for the hoses and a socket to undo the two bolts that hold on the intercooler itself.

Then get indoors and use either a wooden toothpick or a longer wooden skewer (used for kebabs etc) and off you go. Anything harder than wood tends to just break the fins if you're not very careful. You can work faster with wood.

Would a 2000 uk intercooler fit easily enough in a (slanted) 93 WRX import.

Would this benifit as it does look larger?
OR would it be better to just straighten the finns (even though some seem broken) does this affect it at all??

Thanks

it would but you would need some brackets made to make it fit IIRC.

So off to Boots for some wooden toothpicks then & it sounds easy to take it off which will be a lot easier indoors.
