Stop talking rubbish.

Have 18's on mine with 215 x 35 hankook ventus sports on my UK classic running circa 380 bhp.

The suspension hasn't been touched and it handles very well and the tyres don't rub.

I've got 225/35/18 on my classic with 18*7.5 alloys on standard (for now!) uk suspension. It does tramline slightly but it's not really a problem! Don't get any rubbing issues, not even with the kids in the back either!!

Have you ever compared the handling to an Impreza on 17's? Meaning have you driven it back to back?

I've got 18 x 7.5 on mine with 215/35.18 tyres, there has never been rubbing problems with them.

225 tyres can sometimes rub on the wheelarch if the car has been lowered, especially if the offset of the wheels isn't right.

As for ruin the handling that's rubbish, it will tramline more but the grip levels and turn in are better, though it does make the ride a lot firmer with the decreased sidewall of the tyres.

I recently put my standard wheels back on for the winter and have to admit, it's far more comfortable to drive, personally I don't have any regreats having bought 18's though they look great.

I tested 16, 17 and 18 on my RB5 back to back. In all fairness I prefer the 16s. Got the 17 on (standard wheels) and ride is a little harsher. Put the 18s on and hated the handling.

It's surprising the difference it makes

Don't forget that 215/35r18 tyres have a larger circumference than 215/40r17 so the gearing will be longer, 225/35r18 are even bigger. It's not much but it will slow the acceleration.

Also unless you go for light weight alloys most 18 inch wheels weigh more than their 17 inch counterparts so increasing unsprung weight and damaging suspension response and therefore handling.

Very true! My old 18 inch Prodrive (P1) alloys with 225/35/18 F1 tyres weighed 19kilos each!

Compare that to my new Rota Boost alloys with 215/40/17 Toyos at 11.5kilos each! Handling wise, I do prefer the 17's. The car just seems more settled and less 'twitchy' a the rear.
The ride is also quite a bit better.

Hi,

Mine were the lightweight 18", very noticable difference in pickup and acceleration...

Cant comment on any handling difference because i cant get the 16"'s back on due to larger brakes!!

Oh and one of them is flat lol!!

Yes I have. At one stage I had two UK Imprezas a UK Turbo 2000 with 18's and an RB5 on the standard 17's The difference was very marginal indeed.

I even had the 18's on the RB5 at one point.

Here they are on my current vehicle albeit a little worse for wear

i havn't gone above 17's on mine but know of at least 5 or 6 people who have gone from 17's to 18's then with a couple of months back down to 17's.

Cool

Got 19"s on mine 215x19x35 handleing wise I find It more responsive mind you spent £2000 on adjustable CUSCO coilovers, lost the turning circle though. It's best to keep the profile down though. No rubbing on the arches either.

The RB has was put back to standard and sold a long while back. I noticed it for sale in Autotrader lately although I know for definte its been clocked. It had 8000 miles less on it than when i sold it 8 months ago.

Number 263 if anyone goes to look at it.

I have 7.5x18" alloys with an offset of et45 on my Type R and they rub with the standard suspension. When buying them i was told there would be no rubbing!!!! I had the suspension looked at after the wheels were on to see if any any ajustments could be made but had no luck. Just driving carefully until i get time to put the car in a bodyshop to get a respray and body mods done.
