Overboost from 1.4 to1.7 bar - cold weather??
MY98 with PFC, AVCR, FMIC, 20G etc. Boost is set at 1.4 bar which usually shows on the Defis as 1.45. I thought that it was running well yesterday but checking the peak readings on the Defis today shows 1.7 bar recorded Is this within the bounds of the effects of cold weather? I can use the lower setting on the AVCR of 1.0 bar for winter but I'm just wondering...

Is it peaking at 1.7 during the midrange or higher up in the rev range?
I wouldn't want to submit the engine (if the internals are standard) to 1.7 bar spikes for too long...

I don't know where it's peaking in the rev range, unfortunately. For the record, there hasn't been any Knock Link activity either but I'll need to keep a closer eye on everything else next time out. Handy having the Defi peak reading recall, innit!

Thats why there so expensive too...
You should be able to control the spike by adjusting the duty in your AVC-R.
However, if its boosting at 1.7 bar high (above 5.5k) in the rev range and not tailing off, it would most likely be down to "boost creep". My car suffered from this but upon inspection, it turned out it was only a sticky turbo actuator.
