I CAME OUT OF WORK JUST NOW, AND MY CAR IS DEAD.

THE BATTERY IS FINE, AND ALL THE IGNITION LIGHTS ARE COMING ON, BUT ALL THATS HAPPENIN IS THE STARTER MOTOR IS MAKING A 'WHIRRING' NOISE INSTEAD OF STARTING THE CAR....

ANY SUGGESTIONS?? i THOUGHT ABOUT GIVING IT A 'WHACK' TO LOOSEN IT UP, BUT IM NOT A MECHANIC AND DONT KNOW WHETHER THATS A GOOD IDEA!

ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM ?? CAN THEY JUST GO WITHOUT WARNING?? ANY SUGGESTIONS OR ADVICE IS APPRECIATED AS MY CAR WONT MOVE NOW

You could try and give it a whack.....won't do it any harm and could knock it out of a flat spot if that is what is causing the problem.

They can go all of a sudden without any notice.

Is the starter actually turning the engine? or is the starter just whirring?

If its just whirring give the starter a wack or turn the ignition key to the crank position a few times ... you might get lucky and kick it into life.

Looks like you'll just have to put a starter motor on it good news is there cheap and easy to fit

Sonds like starter motor, try rocking car forward in gear the try start it on motor again, could be missing teeth on fly wheel, otherwise just try bump starting it.
