Default Injectors dilema...

Hi a few weeks ago i got hold of my WRX which came from Japan with a hybrid TD05H turbo but has no supporting fuel mods and at 0.9bar boost i melted a piston after just a week of ownership...and now that i opened the engine all 4 pistons seem to be a bit lean so i was thinking of getting a set of STI 440cc injectors...any idea if the standard WRX ECU can cope with the 440cc injectors....? Thanks in advance for any help...

if your car is a jap version the chances are you melted a piston because your car is mapped to run on 100 ron fuel
if the fuel you have used in the uk is 95 (regular) 98 (super) ron etc, so you need to run it on octaine booster to make it 100 ron, or get it mapped.
proberly nothing to do with the injectors

I believe that your 100ron fuel quote is incorrect. IIRC this wasn't available until later than 1993/4.

Also, early ECU's can't be mapped AFAIK.

Should be fine on our Super Unleaded.

got a few ideas from some memebers here of what could have caused the melt down....so i did some checks on the car and on closer inspection the OEM fuel pump is a bit noisy which i have been told is not normal and i also noticed that the fuel filter in the engine bay looks so old that i doubt it has ever been changed ...so it could possibly be fuel starvation......Yesterday i also discovered under the dash an M's Fuel controller which for my misfortune was switched off...this could have probably been installed to back up a bit the fueling.....Any one could suggest where i could buy a full set of gaskets for engine rebuild by the way?....Thanks to everyone this is a very interesting site

Could try API, Zen or Lateral for gaskets.
Also get hold of a walbro fuel pump, and possibly an uprated pressure regulator. Once fitted have all the afr's checked etc and you should be safe again. If you are planning on modding it, then a rebuild is the best place to start uprating components. Again speak with any of the above Im sure they will be more than happy to help. Good luck getting it sorted.
