Default is it chipped

hi, anyone know how i can find out if my car is chipped or not? The last guy told me is wasnt but a few people who know the car says it is i guess he would not have wanted to tell me it was so i dont think he put his foot down .
also is the ecu in the passenger foot well ? is it as easy as just being carefull and pulling the ecu apart (carefully) and haveing a peek inside?
the car is a uk 99 classic

Yes ECU is in passenger footwell, but i couldnt tell you if its as easy as pullin ecu to bits, not sure if they are remapped or chipoped, sometimes they have a sticker on ecu to say who did it. Im sure some1 else will be able to tell you how t identify if its chipped

you won't be able to tell if the car has been "chipped" by looking at the ECU as 99 cars have their ECU's remapped.

This means someone plugs their laptop into the ECU via the OBD port on the car and changes the settings the ECU isn't taken apart and no chip is added/changed.

To check I think you need to get a tuner with Ecutek software to plug into the car...or

Do you have a boost gauge? the standard car should boost at 0.9bar, if it is significantly above this e.g. 1.2bar then it is more than likely the car has been remapped.

Mine does the same, up to 16 then drops to 14, I've not had mine remapped.

Mods

Cat back exhaust
Turbo and induction hoses
Panel filter
STI 8 Intercooler

Sounds like yours isn't mapped as mapped tend to run at about 17psi boost where ours are at 14psi.

Most people recommend a remap if you change to an FMIC/Decat.

Mines booked in for a remap and decat on the 12th feb!

Is Tek2 the same as PPP/WR package?

Tek 2 does run less bosst than a Tek 3 map as Tek 2 is off the shelf.

If you need it fixing at a good price try APP in Sheffield, ex Subaru mechanics and service manger, they fitted my STI 5 box, rear diff and Exedy Organic clutch for what can only be described as peanuts.

it's hard to guess, but with that setup you should see 270/270, a friend of mine has got 280/300 on a newage WRX with similar mods, but 280 is the limit of the TD04 turbo.

you can get 300 with a td04 and right mods, took a decat front mount inductio kit and remap to hit 300 though

You are right, but I thought it was rare, I know that Tracktive have had 320bhp out of one but that was with a very trick inlet manifold.

What spec do you need to hit 300?
