Default Rumbling on Acceleration

If I have a couple of passengers in the back of the car and I accelerate briskly (usually noticed in 3rd down a sliproad), I get a audible rumbling coming from the rear car.

My first thoughts was that it was the tyres fouling the arch (the car has been had quite a few power mods) but it was still audible after the fitment of some Prodrive springs, (which I assume will resist deformation compared to OEM and hence prevent fouling).

ANy ideas on what else it's likely to be (car is an MY03WRX)

cheers

fouling arch is usually more a scraping noise...rear diff could rumble but not just with weight in the back...dont think theres a load sensor for the rear brakes.....more info plz

exahust is not hanging

more info... what do you need?

have also noted a similar sound on fast sweeping left handers whilst accelerating hard, again, this would constitute a change in load to a particular axel, in this case the offside rear.

all this makes me worry that there is a diff component but I don't get the noise at any other time..

wheel bearing...they come with corners...more likely than the diff...the diff is always active one way or another.

....not sure, the problem has been kicking around for a while now since about 20k miles and has gone through a major service (not sure if wheel bearing is covered in this)

wheel bearings tend to make more noise under load...ie left turn...near side wheel bearings

nearside, near to the curb
offside, furthest from the curb

left hand turn under acceleration will shift weight to the offside

wheel bearing is a thought but why the rumble in a straight line

opt for wheel bearing easy way jack up back end and wobble your wheels side to side and top to bottom if it has play in the there's your problem. the faster you go the louder the noise should get and going into corners will put load on the bearing thus giving louder sound. hope this helps self test is quicker and cheaper. nick
