Default Driveshaft, how much can they handle

At what kind of power/torque do driveshafts start to break.

This may be a stupid question but i have no knowledge of them, cant remeber hearing about any breaking

Do the BIG power boys still use standard ones?

Cheers

think i have seen the name GKN driveline on here a few times. Maybe a call to David at API sure he will be able to advise you on it. Im sure a lot of the 400bhp cars though use standard shafts as uprated shafts never seem to be mentioned in the spec list, but I imagine the "big boys" possibly use uprated stuff

had a mate who tuned a 95 classic for the fun of it......never broke a driveshaft was a WRX import....went to 500bhp before he decided fast sports bikes were cheaper.....the driveshafts never broke but all 3 diffs sounded like someine was trying to drill through the bottom of the car

They break when they break, no set level IMO.

Ive had one snap clean in half, and about 4 where the nearside rear inner cv pot has split and the joints shattered. 3 on hard launches and 1 coming out of a tight corner.

Ive only got just over 300 though

Yep, and i have got 560bhp+ and 500ftlb of torque, done 40+ drag launches with 0.5bar boost built up, 6500rpm, modena front diff, dccd centre, and quaife rear, and so far all i have managed to break is 3 aftermarket 2nd gears. The drive shafts are still intact.

Plus 70 miles of hard track work at Elvington, all on an R160 size rear diff, with shafts to suit.

like i said, they can go anytime.

Personally, dont change them untill you break them, if you do, repalce them with what you had (they are cheap enough), if you constantly break them, then consider upgrading!
