Question Do they all judder ?

MY03 STI type uk judders when i set off going in the morning.

Is this normal ?

Is this a major problem that is going to cost me a small fortune ?

Is it because it has not warmed up ?

Can anyone tell me if i am damaging my car by driving it like this.

Do you mean 'clutch judder' or like a 'stuttering sort of feeling when o
you start you come on boost?
Both are very common, and nothing to worry about.

Right, it isn't clutch judder. Can you be a bit more specific. Is it when you accelerate, brake, turn?

I have yet to meet a woman who can explain in detail, a problem with their car. The usual responce is 'it doesn't work right'.
Well, we have tried!

It is more when i accelerate on a straight road, not when i am turning, but only when the car has been stood for any length of time E.G overnight

Disconnect the lambda sensor and see if that makes a difference.

Sounds to me like it's because the engine hasn't reached it's normal operating temp and not quite running as efficiently as it could.
Don't most cars do this when cold?

Sounds suspiciously like clutch judder. Known to effect all 2002 models WRX and STI. After a little prompting Subaru admitted this was a common problem and replaced the clutches under warranty to those who came asking - No recall. I had my WRX clutch replaced under warranty and my current 02 STI suffers very slightly from it before its up to temp. Too late now though as they're all out of warranty.

I think i know the issue you mean, it is more like a hesitation on acceleration at low revs, feels like it could be a slight misfire but i think it is more like the engine isn't ready to go. Clears up when hot though but has been quite pronounced on these cold wet mornings. Not too much of an issue but if there is a fix i'd be interested to hear it.

Happened on my Turbo 2000, P1, 03STI and now my 05STI PPP. If its just a light judder then once warm goes away, I wouldn`t worry. I always put it down to the engine idling higher when cold.

Never had it on any of the 5 Imprezas I've owned.

Thought I heard somewhere that abusing the clutch from a standing start now and again 'cleans' the glaze off of it?

I don't have any problem with mine (04), so might be worth a trip to the garage for confirmation.

I know mine is very "clunky" (technical term) while it's cold, but i always crawl for the first 7-10 miles anyway, below 2,500-3,000 gear changes. Then after that time every seems to be OK.

Do you get the problem when the car is not cold?

My classic used to do it if you pulled off with very low revs (clutch werent knackered though), though since new lightened flywheel/exedy clutch never had it-probably more to do with the sharper bite of the new clutch though to be fair why i dont get it now-pull off now at very low revs it`d stall.

The more I think about it, its more of a stutter than a judder until warmed up!

mine does it every now and again.

If it only does it when cold it could well be that your trying to cane the car whilst it is still going through the heat up stage and therefore it could be overfuelling like a pig eating muck giving said "judder" or there again it could be lambada or clutch or......

Must admit, suprised no one has mentioned maf

Yep, giving it a full bore blast from a standing start will de-glaze the face.

It's just having the ***** to do it !!

Or do the sensible thing like I did, get a balanced/lightened fly wheel.

I have the exact same thing on mine. MY2003 STi, only the first 2 or 3 gear changes then seems to be 100%
