Default ACTUATOR RATTLING ??????????

The last couple of days when i start the car i have heard a rattling noise on tick over but not all the time , thought it was a heat shield then a noisy tappet but when i put my hand on the actuator and held the rod the rattle stopped ! switched it of and you can move the actuator rod up and down slightly where the rod goes into the actuator , does it mean is knackered ?????

Mine did this. It was cured by gently moving the bar in and out of the vacuum part of the actuator itself.

Yeah i've had a couple like this, they are quite common, basically its a spring inside that corrodes. New 1s are available on ebay about £50. They are hard to get hold of second hand because people dont wanna split them off turbo for obvious reasons. Really easy to fit tho, but make sure its set up correctly otherwise engine will overboost

I didn't realise you could open them up and replace bits. Do you have a link with a how to?

You cannot rebuild them, i was bored when mine broke so thought id cut it open to see what actually went wrong with it. They are only fixable with a new 1.
