Induction scoop / cold air feed / not worth the bother?
I have a HKS super flow air filter kit fitted to my MY97 (was on the car when i bought it). Is it worth installing a cold air feed or replacing the bonnet vent above the filter with a scoop (not keen on as i think it spoils the look) to draw more cold air on to it? All i've done at present is remove some of the rubber from bonnet above the headlight.

I know what you mean it makes the car look lop sided.
However, that said it does make a difference. I've done it with mine and done a bit of fancy ducting and it made a noticable difference on the road.
Not hugh, but the grin factory did go up.

I'd say neither are likely to work because the pressure under the bonnet will always be much greater than the pressure from outside, therefore nothing will flow in. Ducting air in from the outside only works when you hook your duct up to a sealed induction tract, which you are not. The only way to get a proper feed to an open induction kit is to have a seal around the kit when the bonnet's down.

thanks for the replies, so basically if i can get air in via a suitable duct from the front of the car and get a good seal round the filter (possibly with the addition of a heat shield in the engine bay seperating the filter / main engine conponents) then it's 'worth' doing, otherwise leave it?

See here for a test I tried a few months back.
Induction scoop made a big difference, and when I get round to sealing the induction kit, it will work even better.
