I'm getting hacked off now

In the wet, my wipers don't seem to do anything but smear on the screen.

I've repeatedly cleaned the screen with various stuff such as meths, AutoGlym etc, then tried RainX on the top. It's fine in the dry (funnily enough! )

The worst time is when it's raining at night with no street lights as the lights on cars coming the other way mean you can't see anything.

Hence, I want to replace the wiper blades - unless somebody can suggest something to stop the smearing. I know they have been replaced once before and the car has done 41k in total, so I think they've done around 20k miles now.

Anyone tried the Bosch blades on a Scooby? I had them on my old Clio and they were fab.

TIA,

Chris.

Cheers guys! I brought some Bosch ones from Halfords this morning - out to fit them in a minute.

It could well be the Rain X. This tends to cause smearing of the glass by the wipers in spray or drizzle despite being excellent in heavy rain when the wipers can be dispenced with altogether. the key to windscreen wipers working efficiently is to have the glass as clean as possible. No tips for removing Rain X though, it doesn't seem that easy.

Hmm, I fitted the new wipers tonight after cleaning and RainX'ing the screen.

For once, I hope it rains whilst I'm out tomorrow!

Thanks guys.

I have found if the screen gets really smeary, wiping Swarfega onto it with a piece of kitchin roll and then washing off with clean water does the trick. Halfords screenwash seems pretty good as well for £2.49 once it is clean.

I too had this problem witha RainX style product (RainWizard) and it just made the screen smeer behind the blade as it wiped. Made night driving in rain very difficult. I tried a huge number of products to remove it but with no luck. I wouldn't go near it on my current car.

I put the Bosch ones on my car, they wipe clean and are very quiet in comparison with the old ones.
