Default Strange Noises from Engine

Believe the worst could be happening, thing the big ends on on their way out.
Trouble is the problem seems intermittent, no loss of power, oil seems fine and the car sounds fine on idle (most of the time), its just at higher revs it sounds awful though not all the time. Worse when started from cold, but the noise can didappear when heated up.

A friend commented if my exhaust was blowing, but i feel its the big ends as its coming from quite deep in the engine.

Is there anyway to check what the problem is?? What happens when the big ends have gone??? and the million dollar question is - How much am i looking at, worst case??

Could well be the big ends excessively worn. I did get some quote a few months back from a few different places (did google search), between £3000 and £5000 for a fitted standard recon engine. Personally I would'nt go for a second hand engine, it may turn out to be a waste of time.

Dan.

if its the big ends then the noise would get louder when heated up,

you could drop the oil and sieve it, if the is metal in there then u know the engine needs to be striped

also if it is the the big ends you could buy a short block for 800 then get someone to fit it for you for £1500

Nope on a scoob its a full strip down to do the big end bearings due to the design of the engine.
