Default Misfire on acceleration in 5th - full boost

I was in fifth doing 60 mph and went to overtake. I floored it and pulled out. The car pulled to overtake then there was a complete loss of power, which was quite alarming almost like a misfire, then I put my foot down again and the same happened. The boost builds up and then then there's a thud and the engine loses power. I have tried full throttle accelerating from lowish (2k) revs in other gears without any problems. I did think that perhaps it was an overboost situation that was cutting the engine power, or causing a misfire, but I'm not sure. Has anyone experienced this, or can suggest what might be wrong?

I will obviously drop i down a cog in the future.

I have a 98 turbo with PPP running on 99 octane fuel (reset ECU now running on V-power and tesco 99).

Sounds like fuel cut and more so because its only doing it in 5th, do you have a boost gauge?

Fuel Cut? What does that mean?

I have no boost gauge (yet)

I think the ecu might just be learning stuff still (I only reset it 3 tanks ago). The difference between all the other gears and 5th, is that 5th is a real cruising gear, more of an overdrive, so progress is less rapid. So boosting from 2.5k at full pressure will mean a slower increase in revs than in other gears, and hence a chance for the engine to stuff up the timing. eg if the boost was too high and the fuel not high enough octane, the engine might knock?

I just went out for a spin and boosted in 5th, and no hiccups.

Not something you want when overtaking an HGV

Fuel cut is a safety feature programed to the ECU, I think. If the ECU picks up a fault it will cut fuel/boost.

I am sure I will be corrected if I am wrong.

clean out the boost solenoid and connecting hoses with carb cleaner !! very very common problem with oil and gunk choking it causing it to nose dive briefly in full throttle......... 90% sure !! do a search for it !!!!!
