Default How did the Type RA engine differ to other STi Models?

I've been led to believe the type RA engine has an uprated block allowing increased boost to be used etc. anyone know exact details?

I'm struggling to confirm its a RA though. I've found the following stamped into the block:
the engine numbers are:
377870378393 & A856166

but nothing else yet. Its supposed to be a JDM, Classic shape, Sti RA v6 but struggling to prove it.

Also as I don't have the original car or its chassis number I'm having a nightmare locating correct parts and gaskets etc. don't suppose anyone knows what chassis number rage this engine shold be from do they?

Thanks all, Oobs

Type RA's all come with closed deck blocks as standard. This makes the piston liners less likly to flex when running high amounts of boost and less prone for pistons to score the liners. CDB's allows for a better head gasket seal because of the increased suface area so reduces the chances of head gasket failure. The type RA block is a good starting point but if your looking towards running high boost, then the knock effect is higher running temps. So forged internals would also help with reliablity.
Type RA chassis numbers start with GC- and six numbers.

If it is a version 6 then it does not have a closed deck block, all version 5+6 Import or Euro have an open deck block.

Seek out John Felstead either on here or on 22b.com, he knows all there is to know about this model.

The only cdb were on early Ph1 cars (STi1&2) and the 22b, as Andy says the rest are open deck the the later cars (V7 onwards) are semi closed.

Agree with above.

Only V1 & 2 cars had a stronger block.

V3 onwards shared the same block as the TypeR and standard 4 door Sti Models.

Its a bit of an urban myth, like alloy bootlids, im afraid.
