I managed to burst the power steering hose due to the heat from the un-shielded turbo. That was bad, but the mess made by the super heated hydraulic fluid spraying across a hot turbo caused flames, melting plastic and melted electircal connectors
My car is LHD so not sure if there is a different location to the UK cars (would seem logical) - and it was also on a trackday with 47C air temps
The turbo gets unfeasibly hot, and has the ability to melt all sorts of plastic around it.
I would strongly recommend fixing and re-installing the heat shield
