Question Oil pressure gauge can I use the original sender?

MY99 Impreza GT
Just bought a oil pressure gauge, comes complete with sender.
Now after trawling through the searches I see that the sender needs to be fitted under the alternator and it's too big for the alternator to sit in place.

So I know the options... sandwich plate or extension tube from sender port.

But is it not possible to just use the original sender?

Cheers,

Plums.

No. Read what it says...

This screws into the current oil switch point and allows reconnection of the original oil switch

This means you can use both the original sender unit and the one that comes with your gauge.

Yup, as hinted at above, the original is a switch that controls the idiot light. It's either On or off, it can't do anything else.

As posted above, original switch is just that, a switch, on, or off. What you need is a sender, which delivers a varying signal to the gauge.

FWIW, you can do without the OE oil pressure switch if you have a gauge. I have.
