Default is Dawes still used after remap

Planning lots of work very soon after the new year, one mod is a remap.

Car currently runs a dawes device running 1.2 bar

Now can someone explain to me what this device overides and will it be used after the remap, or is the boost controlled by the ECU.

Sorry if this sounds a bit thick

On what year of car.
Generally it overrides the Boost Control Solenoid.
On 99 onwards using an EcuTek remap the Ecu will control Boost, On earlier models Most map using an Electronic Boost Controller or a Manual one.

Apexi Pfc Ecu's can have a Boost controller fitted as an option.

In a nutshell A Dawes is a good, cheap and reliable way of achieving stable boost control.

Early Impreza boost control was quite poor no matter what you did with the standard parts and fitment of an aftermarket boost controller was the way forward, the Apexi AVCR will give gear dependant boost control but then so does the ECU on a newage........

.......so no more need to for the Dawes if mapped correctly

If I was to fit parts to my 03 WRX (e.g. decat exhaust, different panel filter, TD05 (or whatever), uprated fuel pump), would it be sensible to have an MBC set to very low boost until getting it mapped (i.e. I'm talking about the drive straight from home to the mapper), so as to avoid the engine knocking etc?

Just run the car off boost to the mappers

The Newage ECU will cope, the only thing the ECU might have problems with is if you changed to a 3-port boost solenoid or went for a biger induction (needing the MAF to be re-scaled)
