newbie speedo problem
folks, the speedo dont work on me car (import 95 WRX)
...that'll be cos the speedo cable is just hanging next to the turbo
theres no damage BUT I cant see where to fit it back into the gearbox!!!!
...it looks too short to fit anywhere (not that I can see any plug in points anyhoo!
oh, but there is some kind of threaded hole (approx 3/4" dia) in the top of the box a ways back under the transmission tunnel (see piccie).....should it have summat in it?.....please tell me it aint for the speedo, cos the cable is FAR too short (photo is a bit foreshortened) and hasnt got a threaded portion!
sorry for being hopeless...I'll get there (first scooby)

if the car was delimited then where the dipstick is on the gearbox (sort of underneath the intercooler), near there should be a little box type unit and the cable fits into there.
To help you find it, just hold the end of the cable, and gently pull it (do not yank as you could disconnect it from the inside of the car which is then a clocks out job) and just go towards the gearbox. You should then be able to work out where it goes.

hmmmmm
there doesnt appear to be a box there.
cant see anything at all that the cable could plug into!
if the car HASNT be delimited...wot will lthat mean (for both speedo AND general running)

On your model year you should have 2 speedo cables.
The first type is fitted into the gearbox, thats the threaded hole your taking about. This cable is the shorter one.
The 2nd cable (longer) which I can see you already have comes from the back of the speedo & clips into the shorter cable.
With your speedo not working which is obvious your car will not go over 4000rpm without the ecu cutting in to protect the engine.
Usually on imports there is a small mechanical speedo convertor box inbetween the 2 speedo cables. That really depends on the speedo clock face.
Does it read 180kph top speed limit. If it does then you will need the convertor so that your speedo will read in mph.
There are other option in changing the speedo clock face, but that involves removing the needles which in the process will more than likely get damaged.
Make sure you get the clips for the speedo cables otherwise they might come apart causing problems.
By the looks of it your current speedo cable may be damage to, does the inner cable spin freely by hand?
Does the inner cable work its self out when turning by hand.
You will have pm soon.
Ticky

AHAAAA!!!!!
now I understand!!!
I replied to you before I read this post
yep, the speedo shows 180kmh
the engine will rev past 4k, but theres a marked 'flatenning' in power after about 5k occasionally (seems fine tonight, but this afternoon it was deffo flat- I thought it was a symptom of dodgy mappping on the Apexi commander)
I'll check the (long) cable tomorrow
cheers bud..youve made an old man VERY happy!

yer right: with the Apexi, I dont get the fault or limp mode (other than the personal problem we dont talk about....)
got to get a cable sorted tho.....I'm doing speeds by feel at the mo - it'll be interesting to see how far out I am:
I reckon 3100rpm = 70mph (5th)
and 2100rpm = 32mph (4th)
