1996 sti miss fire
Hi set off to work today everything ok, after2 miles i get a splutter and the engine starts to die off , managed to keep it going but no power and it poped and banged , had to feather the throttle to keep it running , when i stop it cuts out but starts back up ok , turned round and headed home still spluttering along , then the check engine light came on as i got home, AA has been out and says his computer carnt read my car so has no idea, the car starts fine but runs rough and smells of fuel from the exhaust, any ideas wot it could be , when i was on the way back i managed to get it past the splutter and it pull well but as soon as the revs dropped it limped along,

myblackwrx: sorry scoobies are very limited in manila philippines. there are only a few sti gc8 running. i am also an importer but most of the vehicle i acquire from japan is v5-8. Mine is a V3 so spare parts is hard to find.

also car is running fine as well. I was also thinking this could be related to loose maf connection that is causing the CE light to come on when running on rough surface. Asian road has very bad road condition.

Sorry didn't realise you were in the Philippines easiest thing to do i suppose is to try and repair the maf connections.
NeweraParts > Home are in Japan (english speaking)and say they can supply nearly everything from the simple spares to the major mods might be worth trying them.

myblackwrx: Would i be able to use my old 97 wrx Gt AFM on the sti v3? as a temporary testing as i would have to order it new and it would take some time to bring in. The AFM is identical except for the larger diameter on the sti v3
