Default 20G problems

A friend had just fitted a 20G turbo to his car with an avcr, and the turbo wont make more than actuator pressure. All the pipework is where it should be. Any ideas?

Is it a genuine Mitsubishi 20g ? There have been a few dodgy replicas out there lately.

Would this be anything to do with a company on Ebay called warehousejapan by any chance?
They sell complete turbos and components for attractive prices - but it looks too good to be true.
Sorry to digress.

Jim its set to run jus over a bar of boost but wont make more than actuator pressure. The car runs a gems ecu, would that still be controlling boost?

GEMs not controlling the boost if you have plumbed the AVC-R boost solenoid in..

Actuator slack?

but most likely the solenoid is not plumbed in correctly??

How do you check the actuator? Will get the solenoid fitting double checked in the morning.

Take the pipe off the actuator and carefully apply throttle, it should try to overboost as soon as it is over 3000 rpm...... be carefull not to let it go too far ! All this will prove is that it is a control system issue rather than turbo or charge air route.
