engine problem - deaded
hiya guys.
had a problem on the way home.. full throttle into 5th gear and then no power and the car dies...
car will turn over and start with some throttle... is missing and wont rev that high... no metal crunching or anything... car dies if no throttle is applied..
had the aa out and thought it was either the maf, or something causing it not to spark.. ie plugs, leads, coil pack etc. or is it worse!!??
the car is a 96 sti type r

When my IC pipe blew it cut out straight away, but if the split is slight then its enough to keep it ticking over but running rich, any revs over idle then the split opens, which cuts the engine.
It might not be the problem but its worth a look

wip the intercooler off and have a good check to see if any pipes have come off, easy job
compression test involves removing the spark plugs, what may be easier is to remove the oil filler cap and hold your hand over it when running - check to see you have pressure in the crank case

looks like it was the intercooler pipe!! it must have been cracked when the car first started havign problems last night.
last night when the car was having these issues it overfuelled which was causing the idling issues and throttle problems.
this morning the car wouldnt start because the car was overfuelled. the spark plugs turned out to be wet with fuel so will need drying..
so fingers crossed once i have my new replacement pipe and the plugs are dryed everything should be ok
