MY02 WRX hesitation
Only noticed this on the way back from the rally on Friday. MY02 WRX standard except backbox, which has been on for 2 years.
Accelerating on WOT, any gear, the car pulls then slows as if I've backed off a touch, then pulls, then backs off, etc. Still pulls to redline. No apparent misfire or strange noises. No warning lights.
Does anyone have a potential diagnosis? Could a pipe have come off, or be leaking?
Any suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks for replies.
Plugs were changed at 55000, now 65000.
Didn't think the MAF was a likely contender as air intake is standard, thought MAFs were robust on newage cars? No warning lights.
What does cleaning the boost solenoid entail? Is the boost solenoid the Wastegate Control Solenoid Valve? There is no mention of boost solenoid in my manual.

The boost solenoid is in front of the drivers side strutt under a small cover. Do a quick search on here for hot to clean it, it only takes about 20 mins to do. Its possible you may have some dirt in it and this can cause the problem your experiancing, its the cheapest and easiest option to go for first.

Will do.
I've had a read through the (CD) manual and the following may be relevant. I think the car may have been slightly overfilled with oil at the last service. I handed over a 5l can and got back about 1/2 litre. Previously I got change from a 4.5 litre can.
I really don't like the dipstick and find it very hard to get an accurate reading, but I suspect it may have been about 5mm above the full mark. Could that be significant, and lead directly to boost solenoid problems?
