my first scooby

Hi everyone. Just after some advive i have a wrx 1995 and this morning the hand brake light (!) didnt go off when i put the hand brake off and i did the same tonight.So i checked the switch and seems o.k.
So the Q is what else controls that light other than the hand brake switch?
any info would be great.

check your brake fluid asap,i had a ceased brake line on my sti,and it was P**sing out brake fluid,thus resulting in the handbrake light staying on,also noticed a problem when my brakes stopped working

I have the exact same problem. Checked brake linings, Hand brake switch and operation. Nothing seemed to be up with those. I finally realised that I should check the fluids, they were also okay, but since removing the tops from the fluid bottles the light has gone out. I am waiting to see if the light comes back on so I can see if the level indicator is indeed faulty. Have to admit though, I am stumped..

I checked all the fluids and brake pads aswell and light still stayed on?

so i thought forget about it and went for a spin then it went off and it hasnt come on again yet!

Driving to work this morning and the bloooooooody light came on again
and its still on now after driving home from work.
any more thoughts on what it could be

I,ve got the same problem, but my 95 uk wrx has a (p)light for the handbrake,so not that. Was told the (!) light was fluid, so can only assume the sensors faulty as fluids are ok.

Following on from my last thread...

Dash light came on again so had the brake fluid res open, put it back together and the light has gone out again. So, for my motor I am 100% sure that the sensor in the brake fluid res is indeed faulty.
