what is the commander for and where does it go

the commander is a handheld unit that allows you to adjust parameters of the map, (like add extra fuel//timing etc and lots of other things)
You dont need to have it connected to the ecu though

so its not attached inside your car

Yes its inside the car connected to the FC ecu by a lead

Yes it is it connects to the ecu and is usually dash mounted.

Here is a pic of it fitted in my car, to the left of the steering. Ideal position whilst driving as you can see it clearly.

it can be taken out anytime you want. You just need to unplug it from the ecu. Some people dont bother having them at all, however its good to keep an eye on the sensors and knock levels etc, and can often warn you of impending problems

That's the DCCD status lights i.e. how much you've locked up the centre diff

out of interest what are the other 2 devices in the centre of the dash and under the stereo??

Centre of the dash? If you mean above the rev counter thats a knocklink. The thing under the stereo is an apexi boost controller.

On the dash is an apexi avc-r and below the stereo is a apexi rev speed meter
