Question 9000 RPM!!??

Hi every one im new to this site, just wondering if you could help me.

I have 97 UK spec scooby, its got a gold equal lenth manifold, IHI VF28 Turbo, one off 4 inch bore exhaust from turbo with no cat or siliencer, blitz induction kit, baileys dump valve. Now this is where im lost, it had a new engine fitted 20,000 miles ago by the original owner who worked for subaru and put the VF28 Turbo on it. But it will rev to 9000 and past it if you keep your foot planted to the floor, so i was wondering maybe when they put the new engine they upgraded the internals aswell as i have no history of what the car has done but i do have full subaru service history.

So how do i no what internals are in there, is it safe to take it to 9000 rpm, what bhp should it be running with current mods and is running 12psi but have adjustable boost valve under bonnet and what is the safe limit psi with or with out stregthend internals? and how will i no if it has been remapped?

Thanks for you help in advance Rhys

There should be a rev limiter cutting in before then I would have thought?

The tacho only reads to 8000 rpm, how are you able to ascertain that it revs to 9000rpm?

Ive got Lock wood dials on the clock and the red line starts at 7 and ends at 9000, the car is that quick if you have your foot to the floor you can change gear quick enough with out hitting 8500, i had a little problem with the car and took it to subaru who pointed the fact that there is no rev limiter on the car

Changing dials can cause problems like inaccurate readings. Best bet is to get the car on a dyno and take relevant readings there, at the same time you will get a power output too.

sounds like the needles have been put on incorrectly when the dials were changed.

It probably wont make to much power to be honest with your mods, a 4 inch exhaust from the turbo is overkill and will rob you of power when running standard boost

lockwood dials are crap

sounds like someone has put the needle on wrong or damaged the sensitive rpm counter doing the dial cover fit

get some standard clocks put back in!

you never know if the temp gauge is reading ok could be stuck or go no further than normal temp could be overheating without you knowing.

i have seen this before
