Default Variable valve timing not working??

Hi, Went to get my car (03 STi Jap import) remapped and found that the variable valve timing wasn't working. Also when the car is in 4th gear the ecu thinks its in 2nd gear and so on. Any ideas???

Cheers

VVT, mm this is controlled by the ECU as you know so the only likely conclusion is the part of the map that controls this feature has not been written or is corrupt. This feature had to be set separately on Honda VTEC's (Used to map these with all kinds of goodies such as FTS/Launch etc)

I would go back to mapper tbh mate.

Was it mapped by a member of the "Mappers Guild"? Or just some random guy?

Sounds like it was mapped by a Arkela at the girl guides camp!

Spoke to the remapper, the VVT wasn't working before the remap.

Very easy to say that. Probable causes are:

Mapper doesn't know what is required to get the cams working
Neutral position switch is buggered.

You are missing out on a shedload of torque and turbo response by your VVT not working.
There are ways around the neutral switch issue if your mapper is an Ecutek one

The mapper in question is an EcuTek user, probably inexperienced in these areas though.

Andy there is only one setting relating to the neutral switch which doesn't resolve this issue, buggered is buggered, its needed for other things.

cheers

After some considerable effort I found the resolution of the STi8 JDM VVT problem and after a couple of weeks with the car back Dave is delighted with the results.

When I took initial log off the car before trying to map it, I noticed after resetting the ECU that one cam read approx 10-15 degrees immediately after starting, but the other bank always read zero.

This cam idle reading seemed to reduce to around 3-4 degrees once that car had been running for a period of time.

It seemed that the ECU was trying to recalibrate or learn the static position of the cams.

After checking all the electronic sensors and logging the neutral switch position I decided to check the cam timing and discovered the left hand inlet cam was one tooth out.

Without EcuTek’s excellent diagnostic software this would have been even more time consuming to diagnose.

Definitely NOT an afternoon’s re-map, and certainly not fixable with a paper clip!

To any above concerned about our experience, check out our web site, Cotcomp Home
