Default OMP 10Pt Cage

Anyone use one?

Its not a full on rally thing but for track days and the (maybe) ocaisonal sprint/hill-climb thing it will (I think) be suitable.

How hard to install? No harness bars, manufacture some or just use the rear belt mounts? Anything better (other than a full weld jobby)? I know Cusco do a 10pt one too.

Any other advice?

I belive the rear harnesses should be straight from the back of the seat.. ie horizontal..

Welding in additional bars will invalidate any MSA / FIA certification.

I've got an OMP 6-pt bolt in cage, but we cut off the front part (so I can drive around with out a helmet), and only kept the lower bars which bolt to the a-pillar. It really stiffened up the car. As for belts, I've fitted some OMP 4-point 3 inch belts mounted to the rear seatbelt mounting points, which I am told is not the best solution.

this is what the cage looks like:

Strictly speaking, the minimum cage for hillclimbs is a 6 point.
The shoulder straps should be near horizontal (mine are down to the rear belt fittings, no probs for 5 years now, but not 'legal')
Door bars are mandatory IF the doors are not steel.

If the cage is FIA (check as not all are) then David is right about cut/welding.

Fitting a 10 point must be hard work due to all the trim to come out if fitted.
6 points take a day tops.

Good info there folks

IF you can't weld in bars and they need to be near horizontal, what can you do? Was advised against running off rear strut brace...

what use are you putting the car to?? to what level??

as above you may invalidate FIA spec BUT if your only doing clubman type events then there is no requirement at this time to be FIA approved.............

HOWEVER any welding to the cage must be done by an experienced welder and using the correct material (CDS most normally) as you can cause as many safety issues with a poorly modified cage as you can with no cage at all!!

Car will be used to zero level lol

Maybe hillclimbs/sprints max but more likely just trackdays.

So what is best solution for harness mounting then in this situation?

if thats the case the FIA label means nothing, in this scenario we would normaly install an extra cross brace between the two rear turret bars (sort of in the rear seat back posistion) and use this for harness mounting, we would also possibly triangulate this area dependant on the exact cage and how strong it is

alyn

p.s. will try and get some pics of a car with a similiar set-up

That's just what I (we) did with mine. I have a 6pnt OMP cage. It bolts to welded in mountings. Extra bar fabricated and bolted through wheel arch area for harnesses. If you'd like pics let me know and I'll see what I can do.

ps. omp 6pnt was a bit of a bugger to fit, certainly not a DIY day job, you need a quite well equipped workshop and two people. Oh and it goes throught the dash too.

That is a nice way to do the seatbelt Martin, never noticed that before in your car.
I think you can buy CDS tube from Demon Tweeks.
I have seen one where the 'belt bar' is bolted to the stock seat belt anchor points (the points that slide up and down) on the B pillar.
This way you can fasten the shoulder straps to the stock rear belt positions in the rear pan and bring them up/over the belt bar and through the seat eyes so meeting the MSA Blue Book instructions in section Q I think.

Fitting a cage is a tedious thing especially if you are keeping the trim in like me and Martin.

Graham.

I use the car to and from the hillclimbs, about 3000 miles a year. We are supposed to be a Road Going class and some championship regs demand full trim and seats or you don't race in the class.

Admitedly, in the Champs I do there is no need whatsoever for trim of any type now. The road class in getting fully stripped cars showing up.
Also trying to keep some kind of residual value in the car incase it needs to go.
